Host nation China is continuing to dominate the gold medal count at the Summer Olympics, with 26 gold medals through the first seven days of competition, nearly twice as many as the second-place Americans, who have 14.
Team USA still has the overall medal lead, with 46-41, and will likely maintain that lead through the closing ceremonies. But there's virtually no question that the massive government-run Chinese athletics program will achieve its goal of winning the total gold medal count.
China's golds come from a diverse cross-section of sports: eight in weightlifting, four each in diving and shooting, three each in judo and gymnastics, and one each in archery, badminton, fencing and swimming.
